evan choy - td bank

I'd like to introduce Evan Choy - Branch Manager at TD Canada Trust in Cranbrook.

How has the current Covid-19 situation affected your daily operations?

At our branch here in Cranbrook we have reduced our hours and days of operation. We are following guidelines that head office implements which is derived from the public health guidelines by the federal and provincial government. TD retail branches across Canada are focusing on educating and assisting our clients on COVID financial reliefs that we can provide them which can vary from mortgage payment deferrals, loan payment deferrals, or even finding alternative ways to bank. Many Canadians are struggling through this unprecedented time and we as a bank are trying our best to make sure we are there for our clients.

What positive or uplifting things are you seeing during this time?

This sudden shutdown forced many businesses to be innovative and adapt to the new normal of conducting business. It’s amazing how businesses stay true to their business strategies by utilizing the digital space and stay connected with customers and colleagues. A crisis like this will bring more opportunities to the market which also should trigger existing businesses to explore new directions.

What are you doing to find joy right now?

I find joy in helping and assisting our many clients who are in need. I am very grateful to be in an essential service role that can make a greater impact to the local community. Working at a financial institution right now gave me a different perspective on how important the roles are of banks in our day to day lives. Outside of the branch I have been exploring the great outdoors that the Kootney area has to offer – as I have just been transferred here recently. I am looking forward for the golf courses to reopen and explore the great architectures and scenery of the amazing courses they have here.

Is there anything specific you’d like to share, or wish people knew right now?

As everyone around the globe are enduring this wave of uncertainty and fear it’s very important to maintain your mental health as a top priority and stay optimistic of the future. Things will get worse before they get better. This pandemic is greater than all of us and we need to work in unison to fight this.
