Two Birds Deli
I have the pleasure of introducing Marina & Maraih, the duo behind the incredible Two Birds Deli. If you haven't tried the food here, you are seriously missing out.
What was your inspiration for opening the deli together, and what was it like opening your business amidst the chaos of 2020?
The business was an idea that grew from our years living together while attending university and working together in the food industry. We were inspired to open after moving back to Cranbrook and feeling a need for healthy and exciting food options in the community. Opening amidst the chaos of 2020 presented some challenges but also some opportunities. We had to tweak our business plan and business model, cut dine-in altogether and pivot to take-out only for the time being. We were facing a lot of uncertainties, but we are so grateful to the Cranbrook community, and other local business owners in particular, for the warm welcome!
What positive or uplifting things have you seen or experienced over the course of the past year?
We have noticed individuals and local businesses coming together throughout the community with a focus on collaboration, and really lifting each other and our community up. This CBM is a great example. We are just happy to be here.
Outside of running the deli, do you two have any other creative outlets or things you do to spark joy in your lives?
Starting a business takes up alot of free-time, but when we do have some to spare we make sure to get outside: hiking, biking, fishing, snowboarding, swimming, and all those fun things the Kootenays have to offer. In more normal times we both love to travel and gather with friends and family. We can't wait to start planning a girls trip when the time comes. And big surprise here, but we both love to cook and bake and try out new recipes and cooking techniques, even in our spare time.
Is there anything you’d like to share, or wish people knew right now?
We are big dreamers, and we hope that the deli is just the beginning for us. We plan to be ever-evolving and expanding, trying new things and bringing exciting, delicious options to Cranbrook. We hope that you come along for the ride!
