How has Covid-19 affected your business and daily operations?

Covid turned Soulfood on its head. Breakfast isn’t that takeout friendly. We knew we had to get innovative. So, we ditched our menu completely and created a weekly meal box system just hoping it would get us by. We didn’t expect to sell out 500 meals a week within hours of opening ordering each week. It really gave us the confidence to continue innovating! We also sold products on behalf of our suppliers to help them out too! We firmly believe we are all stronger together.

What positive or uplifting things are you seeing happen during these times?

We offered a meal that our customers could purchase for health care workers or vulnerable community members. Over our nine weeks of meal deliveries, our customers purchased over 600 meals for others! Most of the meals went to shut in seniors, who were isolating and unable to get out much for themselves. A huge thank you to Better at Homes, United Way and Cranbrook Rotary delivering them!

What are you doing to find joy or have some fun during this pandemic situation?

Each of us have very different lives and definitions of joy. Danielle was welcoming piglets and chicks to the farm. Jenny has been enjoying more family time and working on home renovations. Steph has been creating musical parodies and enjoying lake life at her family property. But we all come together(ish) each Friday to do our meal box deliveries and pickups. That’s when the laughter and inappropriate humour happens!

Is there anything specific you’d like to share, or wish people knew right now?

Soulfood has finally re-opened as of June 16th!! We are so excited to announce that we are going to be offering a whole new dining experience with ‘Soulfood At Night’! We do ask for some grace and patience, as we are basically opening a new restaurant within all the new calm, kind & safe guidelines. But it’s going to be magical and full of the love you’ve come to expect from Soulfood! @kootenaysoulfood
